When pairing khakis and a cardigan, despite its classic appeal, I always feel a little bit mumsy and staid. Just a little bit too soccer mom on a Saturday picking up the kids in her Volvo station wagon. Here, I try to counterbalance aesthetic by mixing in youthful accents like bright-colored shoes and quirky mushroom earrings (which I'm a little bit in love with...picked up on our recent trip to Quebec City). If you're not a fan of bright colours, colourful flats are great, low-commitment way to add a little punch to an outfit. The Gap often has great, relatively cheap flats in a variety of fun colours.
