Blustery
The end of daylight savings time meant we were given an extra hour for our surfing and general puttering. It was a beautiful clear day, if not a little windy. We were out the door and headed to Hyde Park to explore the park a bit. The park was fairly manicured, lots of cut grass and golden-leafed trees. We grabbed a couple of hot dogs and took a stroll through the park. Lots of folks out, cycling and roller-blading, child playing and dog frolicking. We made our way down to the lake, where the wind was really starting to pick up. As our eyeballs were watering, we petted sweet puppies and walked along the lake until we came to a bridge. We wandered through the South Kensington area, stopping at the very ornate (an oddly-Asian looking) Albert memorial.
We went down Kensington Road, passed Harrod’s and the National History Museum, until we reached a Pret A Manger for a bite to eat. We headed back to the hotel to relax and get a little packing done before we met up with Cory, a former SFU linguistics student. After some agony attempting to find the pub, we eventually met and had a light dinner with Cory, discussing the pros and cons (mostly pros) about life in London. She was eager to stay in the UK and had nothing but good things to say about her year at UCL. We discussed PhD funding and shopping, cheese and travel. It was nice to see a familiar face again and enjoy a couple drinks. We eventually walked back to the hotel and packed up our things, both a little sad and at the same time eager to get back to Vancouver life.
